John Austin has had various roles relating to this ground-breaking travel information portal. These have included:
- advising on certain functionality and usability aspects
- auditing and reporting on major processes
- designing and carrying out a lengthy process of detailed testing of key data and functionality

This was a particularly noteworthy project within Transport Direct. John Austin was a member of the four-person expert team led by Social Research Associates Ltd in order to advise Transport Direct on design issues and new features. The other team members were Kris Beuret (Social Research Associates), John Miles (Ankerbold International) and Peter Warman (Warman Consult). The team's work led directly to advice to Transport Direct on design issues and new features.
Traveller Information Systems Research
In addition, John Austin was a member of the team that produced 'Traveller Information Systems Research - A Review and Recommendations for Transport Direct' as the Transport Direct concept was evolving. The other members of the team were Glenn Lyons, Reg Harman and Alastair Duff.
