An internationally-renowned expert and thought-leader in passenger and multi-modal information systems, and with extensive industry knowledge, a strong appreciation of user needs, and a background in the bus industry, John has been a transport consultant since 1994. He combines a clear understanding of strategic issues and of the major policy issues in transport and planning with a thorough attention to detail.

A very experienced researcher, John has a rare ability to bridge the four worlds of commercial operations, strategy, the public sector, and academia, and apply lessons from each. A Project Manager and qualified PRINCE2 Practitioner, John has also lectured and taught in several areas relating to Transport.

John is a frequent author and commentator on developments in the application of technology and related policies to passenger transport, the sustainability of transport, and traveller experience. Much of his recent writing covers these topics within the wider context of Intelligent Mobility.

He has been co-author of definitive guides to Car Clubs & Car Sharing and to Public Transport Information Websites. His latest publication is the key 'Technology and Social Media issues' chapter of a new international academic 'Handbook on Transport and Urban Planning in the Developed World'

John is also an affiliate of team red, the network of independent consultants working worldwide. 

John is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport, a Member of the Transport Planning Society, a Member of the Association of Transport Coordinating Officers and an Affiliate of the Royal Town Planning Institute. His economics degree is from Queens' College in the University of Cambridge.

As well as participation in European collaborative projects, he has investigated multimodal transport provision in Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore as a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellow. As a result of this John attended a Reception to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, given by HM The Queen, at Buckingham Palace in March 2015. John's international experience also extends to Nigeria, Kazakhstan and Indonesia, where he has played key roles within bus transport development projects
