Interchange
Interchange is a concept that tends to be associated with transfer between 'conventional' public transport modes. In fact, just as important is transfer between taxi and other public transport modes and between non-motorised modes and public transport. To us, interchange points are vital elements in the public transport chain because they also represent the points at which the traveller accesses and leaves the public transport 'network', and they are crucially linked to system 'tensions' and weaknesses, to wayfinding, and to customer perceptions.
- We have continually dealt with the concept of interchange as part of our work on Transport Direct, on Public Transport Information Strategies, Bus Stop information, within PROCEED, and on our various projects that have dealt with Intermodality, such as INFOPOLIS 2 and other User Needs work.
- We work with infrastructure manufacturers and designers to assist them develop their products to minimise travellers' difficulties with interchange.
- We have advised UK Passenger Transport Executives and other local authorities on interchange strategies.
